In Central Asia, something exciting is happing among the deaf community. Somewhere in Central Asia, a church is organizing ongoing training courses (funded by Open Doors) for new deaf believers. These Bible courses help them to get to know the Bible. These seminars are entitled “Light of the Bible.”
In the recent seminar they started to dive into the New Testament. First an overview was given about the time when Jesus was born and grew up. Questions like: What did the people wear in the time of Jesus, what did they eat, what was their way of life, how did they prepare food, and in what kind of houses did they live? For the deaf believers this was thought provoking as they discovered parallels with their own personal lives and their culture.
Traveling a long way to receive baptism
After the seminar 6 deaf men were baptized. First the meaning of baptism was explained. These 6 men had to travel from remote regions, because there is no one to baptize them in their own area. It was a joyful moment, and everybody cheered when a believer was baptized. This all happened in secret, because this church doesn’t have a registration and baptism outside a registered church is prohibited.
